Abstract
In an attempt to elucidate the effect of Acetaldehyde on the development of mouse early embryo, the two-cell stage was cultured for 72 hours in the medium containing various concentrations of Acetaldehyde.
Cytotoxicity of Acetaldehyde was studied for the embryonal cells differentiated from two-cell stage to blastocyst in the Acetaldehyde contained medium.
The following results were obtained.
1. When two-cell stage was cultured for 72 hours at various concentrations of Acetaldehyde, the development of early embryos was suppressed remarkably at 2.5 X 10-4 M of Acetaldehyde.
2. Acetaldehyde decreased the number of embryos developed toblastocysts, dose-dependently and the longer the embryos exposed to Acetaldehyde, the more injury appeared.
3. Cytotoxicity of Acetaldehyde was pronounced such a morphological changes as cytolysis, fusion, developmental retardation and fragmentation of biaston, eres, dose-dependently in the embryonal cells damaged to Acetaldehyde.
From the above results, it is suggested that Acetaldehyde might have a toxic effect on the development of¢¥, mouse early embryo by inhibiting the cleavage of embryonal cell.
